Basic essentials - that’s a hard one to narrow down for crafters isn't it? For me the basics are stamps, ink and paper but when I first started out over 25 years ago it was a little overwhelming to begin with. I remember not knowing why I would need so many different coloured ink pads when black was surely all I needed? Surely I didn't need ALL the colours right? Oh boy how naive I was!!
This challenge made me think of what a brand new stamper would want/need to get started. And to me that would be one or two a stamp sets, ink and cardstock. And perhaps a pack of designer series paper too.
When making today's card I began with these basics - basic white cardstock, blushing bride ink, and a stamp set with both images and sentiments. I chose to recreate a card in the current saleabration catalogue (page 17) too, I always tell new stampers to use the catalogues for inspiration. And my card meshes this sample and another I saw on Pinterest.
Now I did keep going once I started on my card adding more colours, an embossed panel and die cuts. A touch of ribbon and embellishments are always lovely too but not essential.
My cards always seem to have an embossed element and this layout of one of my go to styles, dsp, embossing and a layered sentiment. Oh and a liberal dose of wink of stella too!

Such a lovely card with that off kilter stamped panel, Melissa! Love the basics that you would recommend to a beginner stamper... yes, it can be overwhelming to start. Good simple recommendations. Thanks for hopping around the world with us! x
