WA Demo Retreat Blog Hop

Wow what an amazing day I had at the WA Demo Retreat Day last weekend.

My lovely friends Nicole and Kelly organised a fun day for approx 30 WA Demonstrators to gather, make projects, eat yummy food, win awesome prizes, meet new friends and share our love of all things Stampin' Up! - we were like kids in a lolly shop!!

We met in a hall in Waroona (about an hour away) making it a half-way point for both those of us in the metro area and those further south. It was a beautiful spot. I was lucky enough to be driven down by a fellow demo which was lovely, we chatted all the way and seemed to get there in no time!

The main idea of the day was to do what is known as a shoebox swap. Each person designs a card/project and puts all the supplies into a small 'shoe box' so others can pick up the box and make the card by ourselves. We we able to make 12 projects each so everyone made a slightly different set of cards. It was busy but so much fun!

Each card was so different and it was nice to make different styles of cards, colours and stamp sets. Everyone is always so willing to share their tips and tricks and I always come away with my mind boggling with ideas and techniques to try.

My project was this cute little mermaid card. It uses many of my favourite things - the colour bermuda bay. circle punches, glimmer paper, sequins, water colouring and a bit of whimsy.

The card is quite simple, there is just a few steps. These are the instructions I included in my kit to help make the card.

Stamp sets used – Message in a Bottle, Bubble Over.
Dies – Swirly Scribbles

Squeeze some ink into the lid of the Bermuda bay inkpad and use the aqua painter to create a wash on shimmer white cardstock.
Punch 2” circles in shimmer white, naturally eclectic dsp and glimmer cardstock
Punch starburst shape out of Bermuda bay cardstock
Stamp mermaid in black memento ink on shimmer circle
Stamp bubbles around mermaid in pool party ink
Colour mermaid in blends – crumb cake, bermuda bay and night of navy
Die cut wave (Swirly Scribbles) from vellum paper and adhere to the washed cardstock
Trim to size and adhere panel to the Bermuda bay cardstock.
Adhere circles to card as per picture.
Stamp the 2 sentiments in memento ink on white cardstock and cut to size. Adhere to card with mini dimensionals.
Add tutti frutti sequins to card randomly.
Adhere white panel insert inside the card.

As usual I was too busy talking/creating/eating to get any photos of the day but I know Nicole did so hopefully she has shared some in the previous blog post.

Thank you Nicole and Kelly for a fantastic, well organised day. I hope we can do it again soon!
